About Future Forward

INTRODUCTION

Future Forward (association incorporated under section 21) (“Future Forward”) is a non-profit organisation with no shareholding.

Future Forward strives to make a positive contribution towards the lives of as many institutionalised school leavers in South Africa as possible by distributing funds to supportive and service rendering facilities, institutions, individuals and structures.

To assist these young people Future Forward promotes personal development programmes in employment or tertiary education environments, which should culminate in financial, personal, material, social, vocational, and emotional independence in the shortest possible time.

THE ORGANISATION

On 22 November 2002 The Future Factory was registered as a non-profit organisation in terms of the Non-profit Organisations Act 71 of 1997.

In the interests of transparency the decision was made to form a company in terms of Section 21 of the Companies Act 61 of 1973, and on 13 December 2002 a company was registered with the name The Future Factory (association in terms of section 21). On 29 January 2003 a special resolution was passed to change the name of the organisation to Future Forward.

The management of Future Forward consists of a board of directors all of whom are volunteers receiving no remuneration.

SERVICE

Future Forward acknowledges that, whereas the community expects the state to care for orphaned children or to remove children from their parents where abuse and severe neglect prevails, this arrangement is only effective until the age of 18.

Future Forward believes that it is the community’s responsibility and obligation not only to accept these children back into society as young adults, but also to provide the means to further their rehabilitation, development, assimilation into society and growth towards personal independence.  Future Forward aims to provide the infrastructure and facilitation for society to constructively and progressively get involved in the processes to achieve this end.

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATION

The Directors of Future Forward, entrusted with public funds and support, commit themselves to be transparent and fair. In pursuit of this contract Future Forward will at all times manage its affairs in a way that is acceptable, ensuring that a balance between expenditure and income is maintained – i.e. the major portion of all funds raised will ultimately reach the beneficiaries.

VISION

Future Forward has a vision to become a nationally recognised support organisation. And in so doing to realise sufficient resources to offer significant, potentially life-changing support for each and every school leaver from an institutionalised environment, for a period after leaving school.

MISSION

Future Forward’s mission is to be a reliable and pro-active conduit for the community’s involvement with and support of statutory obligated school leavers. Future Forward aims to be an organisation that offers these children a realistic chance in life, to overcome previous disadvantage and realise their dreams.

VALUES

Future Forward operates on principles that are non-racial, non-sexist, non-denominational and non-political and based on the Christian principle of God’s love for all people.

Future Forward’s board of directors are volunteers from all walks of life and various cultural backgrounds reflecting a typical cross-section of South African society. They are people who share a common belief: Statutory obligated school leavers are a product of society and need to be nurtured to become free-thinking, self-respecting, productive, independent citizens who can hold their own in the face of adversity in a competitive and sometimes hostile world.

It is their intention to do this with the utmost compassion, understanding, empathy, insight, and support. In order to enhance these beliefs the members of the Board constantly endeavour to build relationships with professionals, counsellors, and advisory people and organisations that are similarly orientated.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of Future Forward is to assist in, co-ordinate and promote the education, development and support of matriculated or school leaving orphaned children, or children who have been removed from the care of their parents through a legal process, throughout the Republic of South Africa, towards the achievement of their full and successful integration into society.

Short Term

-       To successfully develop and commence operations of all strategic projects. Most of these planned operations are annual fundraising and community intervention programmes. Apart from staging them at least once, the aim is to organise them in such a way that they could be repeated with more success in future.

In order to achieve this, these events must be supported by relationships (supporters, sponsors and workers). It becomes a long-term responsibility of directors to develop and nurture these relationships.

 Medium Term

-       To establish certain relationships (see above).

-       Future Forward avoids the development and building of infrastructure and internal capacity (full-time staff and other resources). It is our strategy to obtain access to any and all expertise, know-how, support, sponsorships and workers by building strong relationships with loyal associates.

Long Term

-       To have surpassed all short and medium term objectives.

-       To generate a constant profile of earnings.
